The destination Wedding in Le Marche of Nathalie and Olav took place during the second week of June in the village of Acquaviva Picena. The choice of the small village in the province of Ascoli Piceno wasn’t accidental. As a fact Nathalie has got a beautiful house in the historic center, where both decided to get ready. Using the same location for the getting ready is, in fact, a smart choice in order not to take too much time with the arrangements.

GETTING READY

A wedding always has pre-determined steps and each of them has its own importance and specific feature. For example, the preparation step is the one in which the mildest situations and all kinds of emotions, that you’ll be feeling all day, occur: amusement, tension, sentiment, ecc.

For the photographer is very important having a well-defined role and that it is clearly perceived. For instance, I face this step with a certain emotional detachment, just to be able to tell that situation at its best. My goal is to take pictures where my presence is not perceived. I don’t build anything, nor in this sentence or in the following, just because I want to depict the event exactly as it took place.

The presence of witnesses, bridesmaids and parents is crucial too: the more people take part in this step, the more dynamic and unique the narrative will be.

THE CEREMONY

The ceremony took place inside San Rocco’s Church in Acquaviva Picena. We walked down the short distance that separates Nathalie’s house from the church, where Olav and all the guests (coming from all Europe) were waiting. The ceremony, in general, is the most difficult part to tell. It is here that the skills of a good photographer are taken to the test thanks to the uniqueness of such an important moment. All weddings, at the end, are similar: what makes them different is the type of ceremony.

OUTDOOR SESSION

If on one side the telling of a wedding requires a documentary approach in order not to make my presence as a photographer be perceived, on the other hand, during the outdoor shooting the method changes towards a different language. Here’s where my creativity has to deal with the short time I usually have. This is part of my choice, because I find it impolite to keep the guests waiting and to force the newlyweds to take exhausting photography sessions, often in inconvenient weather. I don’t usually choose too distant locations from where the refreshment is: this often gives a great occasion for special pictures. Every location, as a fact, hides a very unique scenery. You just need to have the right set of eyes to catch it. For this specific Destination Wedding in Marche, for example, we were at Borgo Seghetti Panichi, in Castel di Lama.

THE PARTY

At Borgo Seghetti Panichi, near the old oak tree, under which the dinner took place, there is a gentilizio oratory, dedicated to San Pancrazio, wrapped in a beautiful bright green ivy. On the wall overlooking the entrance to the villa, there is a small stone bench. At the end of the dinner, I sat to rest a bit. From that exact point I had a privileged perspective to watch the scene and for a moment I felt like swooping in another era, thanks to the dreamy atmosphere that particular situation generated in me. A yesteryear atmosphere, like fairy tales softly told. It was as if time stopped, like a moment inside another moment. That feeling made me think about why I do this job, about how I could improve day after day, experience after experience.

All the stories I tell have got a meaning only if let to sediment for some time. This is why I don’t rush to tell them, as if I would hide them in the darkest spot of my mind to transform them into something different every time I go back to relive them. My job is very precious, that requires time, dedication and passion. Urgency is something I don’t recognize as part of me and that would banalize the whole creative process. We often forget about how important it is to stop and slow down. For my part, I prefer to proceed in small steps to be sure not to miss anything of the wonderful show I get to watch every single time. Telling a story is exactly this: finding out a set of new eyes every time I start telling one.
